Pray

‘Together, we work such long hours to help others in need. The burden is huge, but we are so encouraged to know people are praying for us.’

These words, sent to us by one of our Middle Eastern Christian partners, leave us in no doubt how vital your prayers are to our partners. They work amidst conflict and discrimination facing poverty, oppression and inequality alongside the people they lovingly serve.

Yet knowing that people across the world are praying for them – upholding them and their work before God constantly renews their hope and determination.

So, our new Prayer Diary includes a prayer request for each week of the next six months and will help you support our Christian partners through prayer.

The Prayer Diary will be sent out in July if you are on our postal mailing list. Or you can download it here:

Shorter May - August 2017 Prayer Diary:

A prayer for the Middle East:

Heavenly Father,
when we see devastating images of war
and hear the inconsolable cries of those
who have lost homes, livelihoods
and loved ones,
our hearts break.
In the face of so much
suffering and despair,
come Lord Jesus and help me
to see with your eyes,
hear with your ears,
think with your mind,
speak with your lips,
walk with your feet,
love with your heart,
so that I can reach out
with your hands and
be a futuremaker
to my brothers and sisters
in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon,
Egypt and Syria.
Raise up leaders in the Middle East
who will turn from violence and seek
your ways of peace that they may
act justly, love mercy
and walk humbly with you,
our God.
We pray this
in Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Prayer for refugees

God of compassion
whose own son experienced life as a refugee,
we remember those fleeing from danger,
hungry and afraid, with nowhere to call home.
God, give them warmth, security, food and peace.

God of hope,
we thank you for those who are working to bring relief and
comfort to those displaced,
showing glimpses of grace in the darkness of despair.
God, give them strength.

God of justice,
Guide the nations and the leaders of the world towards peace.
Stir hearts to be generous and compassionate.
God, help us to play our part in bringing about the change
we want to see.

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord
Amen
