Lenten Prayer of St. Ephrem the Syrian
O Lord and Master of my life, give me not the spirit of sloth, meddling, lust for power and idle talk.
But grant unto me, your servant, a spirit of chastity, integrity, humility, patience and love.
Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see mine own faults and not to judge my brother. For blessed are you unto the ages of ages.

St Ephrem the Syrian (306-373 AD) was born in Nisbis and later lived and ministered in Edessa. He is revered as a skilled Syriac-Aramean Christian Theologian and writer, as well as one of the most notable hymnographers of Eastern Christianity. The above prayer, attributed to St Ephrem, is central to the observance of the Great Lent in Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic traditions.
