WEEK 3

“An Bhainis Phosta a Bhi i gCana” (The Wedding Feast at Cana) by Nóirín Ní Riain.

This song come from an Irish liturgy for the Eucharist that celebrates the miracle that took place at the wedding in Cana. Here are the words translated into English:

At the wedding in Cana the King of Graces was there in person,

With Mary the Mother, and was she not the most beautiful of all?

There was a company gathered, and they lacked wine,

In the vessels there was water that was not beautiful to taste?

Dear God, Jesus, and the bright King of the universe,

He bore the crown of thorns and the sacrifice of the Cross,

To stutter and scatter between people without association,

Let loose the greens, which were gathered against us.

The treasure that the King of glory has in store for us is too beautiful,

His blood and flesh as food for sinners'.

Do not put your hope in yellow gold or wealth

For it vanishes like smoke, rather than the glory of Heaven.
