Where are they?: 

Ezbet el Nakhl, one of the Zabaleen communities on the edge of Cairo.

What do they do?: 

The Salaam Centre works to improve the quality of life for the Zabaleen community who live in a slum area of Cairo characterised by great poverty resulting in poor health.

Who benefits?: 

The Zabaleen community, particulary women and children.

Activities: 

The Salaam Centre offers comprehensive services including two kindergartens, school, children's health clinic, hospital, home for the elderly and rehabilitation centre for those with physical disabilities. 

They also run a women's services that provides awareness seminars and workshops on substance abuse, domestic violence and child health.
