Urgent appeal: Home for Christmas

UPDATE: So far we have had a fantastic response to our Christmas appeal, Home for Christmas - thank you to everyone who has already given!

We have produced a short film (below), so that you can see exactly what your generosity will mean to families in Lebanon:

Home for Christmas for refugees

If you have been intending to send a gift, there is still time - or maybe you want to think about it a bit more, in which case, here's a reminder of why every gift is so vital...

It is not widely known that at this time of year Lebanon can be extremely cold, temperatures will plummet and the rain will come and snow will fall.

For those without sufficient shelter, winter poses a serious problem. Seventy percent of Lebanon’s annual rainfall arrives within a few short months, and if you are one of the hundreds of displaced families living in make-shift homes, life becomes near impossible.

There are millions of refugees living in Lebanon. We met Marwa, Kadeem and their two young daughters. They have been in Lebanon for seven years but even now their future is uncertain.

Like many others, in a similar situation, their tiny two-room dwelling offers little protection against the cold. There is little food and children go hungry. They become vulnerable to diseases.

And even summer brings no respite; It was unbearably hot. Because of high humidity during summer, people struggle to prevent their belongings from rotting.

It is no place for a young family.

Marwa and Kadeem should be feeling hopeful - they are expecting a new baby, but their tiny dwelling will give them little shelter.

With a new baby on the way, and with Christmas approaching we are reminded of the birth of Jesus.

‘And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.’ Luke 2:7 (ESV)

Right now, families like Marwa’s need shelter.

And there is hope! Our Christian partners are working with refugees and poor local Lebanese people to build and re-build their homes to make them warm and safe. They are repairing these small homes to ensure they are dry, and being warm and dry will help prevent diseases from entering into their vulnerable homes. This will be most welcome for Marwa who is anxious for her new baby.

Our Christian partners can provide:

  • Water proofing
  • Window and door
  • Toilet, and a basin with taps
  • Kitchen sink with taps
  • Electric water heater
  • Water tank
  • A whole new home

As we approach this special time of Christmas, you can help.

You can provide safe, warm homes for refugees and poor local families across the Middle East.

At this time of the year, the life-saving gift of a safe, warm home brings hope to a family.

A gift of just £18 today could save lives. Please send your gift now and give a refugee family a safe, warm home for Christmas.

Christmas is such a special time of year for many of us. For people like Marwa, Kadeem and their growing family it will be a nightmare, unless we can make their homes safe and warm.

You can provide shelter today - you can give a gift of £18 or whatever you can afford.
